January 2016 Bird Count

Members of the Lake McIntyre Management Board, together with members of the Millicent Field Naturalist Society, undertake a bird count each month at the
lake. These counts give us a good record of the number and species of birds at the lake.

The last count was on 16th January with the water level very low.

The species list from that count is as follows:

  • Black-tailed Native-hen

  • Straw-necked Ibis
  • Yellow-billed Spoonbill
  • Latham’s Snipe
  • Masked Lapwing
  • Black-fronted Dotterel
  • Black-winged Stilt
  • Silver Gull
  • Wedge-tailed Eagle – 2 overhead in the distance
  • Feral Pigeons – overhead
  • Common Bronzewing
  • Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo – 18 overhead 
  • Galah – overhead
  • Long-billed Corella – overhead
  • Varied Sitella
  • Superb Fairy-wren
  • Brown Thornbill
  • Red Wattlebird
  • Little Wattlebird
  • New Holland Honeyeater
  • Grey Shrike-thrush
  • Grey Fantail

Also spotted were 2 Eastern Long-necked Turtles and a 30cm long Lowland Copperhead snake.
